Client Update: Possible USCIS Processing Delays Due to New Security Review Process

We want to share an important update that may affect the timing of USCIS case decisions.

Beginning April 27, 2026, immigration attorneys across the country have reported that some USCIS offices are pausing decisions on certain applications. While USCIS has not yet issued a formal announcement, reliable sources indicate this is tied to a newly implemented security review process.

What we are seeing so far:

  • Some pending applications are not being adjudicated at this time
  • The impact appears to include adjustment of status, i.e. green card cases, and may extend to other types of filings
  • USCIS may require updated fingerprinting (biometrics) for many applicants whose fingerprints were previously submitted before April 27, 2026
  • Cases are expected to move forward once this additional review step is completed

At this stage, it is unclear how widespread the delays will be or how long they may last.

What this means for you:

  • There is no action required right now unless USCIS contacts our office
  • Our office may receive a new biometrics appointment notice if your case is affected
  • Processing times may increase as USCIS works through this new procedure

Our team is actively monitoring this situation and will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
