NEWS ALERT – DHS Ends Automatic EAD Extensions, Potentially Disrupting U.S. Workforce

The Department of Homeland Security announced a new rule ending automatic extensions of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) for certain noncitizens filing renewals. Effective October 30, 2025, workers whose EADs lapse while awaiting renewal could face temporary interruptions in work authorization. USCIS generally recommends filing a renewal application up to 180 days before the current EAD expires, but experts caution that this change may still lead to disruption across U.S. industries and communities.

ALG will continue to monitor the situation and will promptly inform our clients if this rule may impact them.
